But here comes the trouble with these inventions and the new means of commuting. According to a report, the main sources of pollution in the United States are mobile alone. It accounts for more than half the air pollution in the United States, making it the primary source of pollution.

SHIFTING ECO-FRIENDLY

In such a polluted environment, added with the risks for the future including threats like global warming, the future of the automobile companies is in horror. But luckily, there is another way to go.  Many companies today are working and joining hands toward the making of a more sustainable transportation system, for the benefit of all. Yes, the least environment-friendly industry, i.e. the transportation industry/sector is aiming to go environment friendly.

A lot of technology companies have begun their race in the making of electric vehicle technology.  It has made its way from being a mere luxurious product to a new standard for automobile manufacturers. Nowadays electric vehicles include sports cars, freight trucks, bikes and so on to make travel easier and in a more eco-friendly way.

TESLA

A number of companies such as Lucid Motors, Tesla, Uber, and so on are on their journey, paving the way for electric motors. And many more are joining the race. Tesla is the leading company when it comes to the manufacturing and development of electric cars.  In fact, it was one of the first companies to perfect EV design (Electric Vehicle Design). In addition to the development and marketing of high-speed electric vehicles, the company also works in the development of solar panels designs for use in businesses and homes.

Tesla is an American “electric vehicle” and “clean energy” company that designs and manufactures electric cars, battery energy storage from home to grid-scale, solar panels and roof tiles, and so on. Based in California, United States, it is a major installer of photovoltaic systems in the United States.

ELON MUSK AND HIS VISIONS

To your surprise, the most popular name attached to Tesla is in reality not even the founder of the company. That’s right! Tesla was not founded by Elon Musk, the entrepreneur and business magnate. In fact, Tesla was founded way back in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpennong as Tesla Motors,  as a tribute to the inventor and electrical engineer, namely, Nikola Tesla. In the year that followed, Elon Musk, the co-founder of X.com became the largest shareholder of the company and it was only in 2008 that he became the chairman of the company.

Elon Musk is a Canadian-African, currently staying in the United States. He is the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at “SpaceX” and the founder of “The Boring Company”. In addition, he is also the co-founder of “Neuralink” and “OpenAI”.

Right from the start, Musk has had his vision for the company bright and clear. He sought to solve the world’s energy crisis. He aimed to do that by designing high-quality, mass-market vehicles that do not rely on fossil fuels. The purpose of Tesla, Musk says, is to speed up the move to sustainable transport and energy, acquired through electric vehicles and solar power.

THE ALMOST-FALL OF TESLA

No matter how popularly successful we see Tesla right now, it too had its own pits and falls in the past. Back in 2007, Tesla started to burn through cash a lot faster than the amount it raised. Consequently, the company was forced to fire at least 10% of its workforce. The year that followed, when Musk became the CEO, he had to fire an additional 25% of the company’s workforce in an attempt to lower the burn rate of the company. The “burn rate” is the rate at which a company, specifically a not-so-profitable one, burns through the cash that it has available at hand. The burn rate of the company got so out of control that many automobile websites and reporters started counting down, waiting for the company to go bankrupt.

Through a lot of efforts put by the CEO Elon Musk and the help of other funds, investors, the company never really faced bankruptcy, it never ran out of cash. Much later, Musk revealed that he shifted the resources from the solar company that he had bought to save his electric car from bankruptcy. It was the period when the company was scaling up the production of the Model 3. As a result of this, his solar company had suffered damages.

Elon Musk being the risk-taker was willing to bet everything for Tesla and his dream.  He even mentioned in much of his interviews and ted talks that his dream can be achieved whenever the company finds enough engineers with talent and interests, pointing towards the fact that it was never about the “time” but the “talent” that is required.

RELEASES BY TESLA AND IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE

In 2008, the company built an electric sports car named Roadster. Then in 2010 the company, Tesla, disclosed the Model S with a price of over $72,000. It was still far away from the type of mass-market vehicle that the company was intended to work on but still, it was one step closer to their dream. Post that the company has released model 3 in 2017 and model Y in 2020. Moreover, Tesla has announced the coming of at least 8 new vehicles in the future.

Today, the company remains committed to the vision of transportation free of fossil fuel. They are also at hand working to increase the range and the performance of the vehicles and aiming to keep them affordable. So far, as per an article, the designs featured by Tesla make it safer, more convenient, and more capable. Moreover, it appears more cost-effective than legacy vehicles. No doubt, the cars by Tesla bring with it its modern design and innovative technology, and kudos to the team of engineers and designers working behind the scenes for that!

Currently, the company seems to be invested in producing cars with Artificial Intelligence (AI), that is, the cars that will drive themselves. The company is working towards the creation of the hardware and software that will be required for the navigation on the road in the absence of the driver, or without any need for input from the driver.

TESLA’s SALES

As per the official website of Tesla, in 2020 a total of under 500,000 units of Tesla vehicles have been delivered. Compared to the second quarter of 2021, according to another article, the quarterly deliveries rose by about 20% during the third quarter of the same year. In addition, the deliveries crossed an approximate 240,000 units threshold between July and September 2021. This data alone stands as proof of the love Tesla is receiving from the market.

LOGO OF TESLA

Even after all these major achievements, the event that has been the talk of the town was in fact the logo of Tesla. We all are aware of how important a logo can be, especially for an automobile company. It has the pressure to match the brand image of the car and be as recognizable as it can be. In another way, it can be said that logo design is one of the most important pieces of work at hand.

And in this case, this important task was given to RO Studio. RO Studio is a design firm based in New Jersey and has had a long and strong relationship with Elon Musk, the present CEO of Tesla. In fact, it was RO Studio that designed the logo for Musk’s SpaceX company, which is an aerospace manufacturing, space transportation services, and communications corporation. In addition, the Chief Designer at Tesla was also introduced to Elon Musk by RO Studio.

At first, the logo was made in a way to fit inside a shield, an emblem. But later the company decided to go away with the shield and went only with the “T” as their logo.

The logo features the English letter “T” in a very unique and subtle way. It appears futuristic and fancy. The logo initially was made to stand against a red background, but the current version is the letter T against a black background, where the logo is made out of steel.

ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THE LOGO

For a long time, there have been many assumptions about the meaning behind the logo. People on the internet already seemed to have divided their opinions about the same. Some associated the resemblance of the “T” with the crucifixion of Jesus, and some even went to the extent of pointing out the similarity between the resemblance of the overall logo and the uterus of a human body. The logo has also been associated with a cat’s nose, a push self-defense knife, and much more.

But we must point out, this mystery of the logo has only added up to the popularity of the company. People, full of curiosity about the meaning of the logo, ended up taking interest in the company, Tesla, overall.

MEANING BEHIND THE LOGO

Nonetheless, all these doubts about the logo were only confirmed once Tesla CEO Elon Musk replied to a tweet asking the meaning behind the logo. Musk tweeted, “similar to SpaceX, the T is like a cross-section of an electric motor, just as the X is like a rocket trajectory.”

This tweet confirmed all the various theories and destroyed all the vague assumptions about the logo. We are here assuming, as based on the explanation by an article, that the main body of the “T” represents one of the poles that stick out of a motor’s rotor. While the second line on the top seems to be representing the section of the stator. Hence, it is similar to the logo of SpaceX in which the “X” is meant to appear similar to a “rocket trajectory”.

The company’s logo showcases and represents the ideas of the future, just like the person who was apparently an inspiration to the brand name, i.e. Nikola Tesla.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND TESLA – NIKOLA TESLA

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American engineer and physicist. He made dozens of advancements in the production, transmission, and application of electric power. In addition, he invented the first alternating current (AC) motor. Nikola is said to be ahead of his time, someone who sought the key to boundless energy, long before the energy crisis was even anyone’s worry.

EFFECT OF THE LOGO

Just like the futuristic Nikola Tesla, the logo represents the same futuristic ideas. In its black and white color scheme, the logo appears to be classy and powerful. This also conveys the essential market segment of their business goals, i.e. to sell their luxurious vehicles to the individuals who could afford any car in the market. By creating a logo that is futuristic, luxurious, and powerful, Tesla was able to convey the image of their company being the same in the market. Hence, the logo met its ultimate goal.

By far, the logo has achieved its purpose. Even though the logo takes up only tiny space of the cars, it can immediately be recognizable from afar. With that, it gives a sense of pride and status to the owner. We would never know what would have happened to this pride and status had the logo looked any different.

Thus, one can say the logo has achieved its aim, what is to be seen is whether Tesla itself reaches its dream just like the logo or not.

Summing up, we end it on a happy note by saying that we all look forward to the coming of new eco-friendly ways of commuting, for the benefit of all. Hopefully, the popularity of the logo adds to the curiosity towards the company and enthusiastic talents become aware of the existence of such an ambitious and futuristic company.
