Introduction

In-N-Out has become a ubiquitous fast-food name in the country. In-N-Out Burger is an American-based regional chain of fast-food restaurants that is highly famous for serving burgers. The company has been running successfully for the past 72 years. No, In-N-Out does not pay every week. Instead, the fast-food company makes the payment bi-weekly to its employees working on an hourly rate.

Foundation History of In-N-Out Burgers, Inc

The American-based fast-food restaurant was established on October 22, 1948, by Esther Snyder and Harry Snyder. The primary location of the company was in Baldwin Park, California. But, the current headquarters of the company is located in Irvine, California.

Interestingly, the couple was the first people in the country to develop the idea of a drive-through hamburger restaurant, where the customers could order through an intercom. Harry Snyder and his wife, Esther Snyder, were both American businessmen and women, respectively.

The first generation In-N-Out restaurant was located in the Southwest corner of Baldwin Park, which is now Interstate 10. The restaurant was built so that it allowed the drivers to place their orders through a two-way speaker system. This was a unique and new idea since World War II in California, where carhops were used to taking orders.

The idea was liked by many customers from around the local geographical area and brought in a second In-N-Out. It was opened on the corner of Azusa Canyon Road and San Bernardino Road that became very successful, and it led to open a third and fourth outlet in the town.

The restaurant chain made sure that the quality was maintained in its everyday business. Eighteen In-N-Out chains were opened in the local area until the owner Harry Snyder died in 1976 at 63.

Second Generation of In-N-Out

After the death of Harry Snyder, his 24-year-old son Rich Snyder became the President of the company. Fortunately, Rich and his brother Guy had started working in their father’s In-N-Out at an early age and knew most of its business methods. For the next twenty years, under the presidentship of Rich Snyder, In-N-Out expanded from 18 outlets to 93 restaurants in the country.

The first restaurant outside their hometown was opened in Los Angeles Metropolitan area in San Diego County back in 1990. But, unfortunately, Rich Snyder could not continue his father’s legacy as after opening the 93rd store in Fresno, California, he was on a Boeing 757, which was caught in turbulence and crashed. Later after investigation, it was found out that Rick Snyder and four other passengers had died in the plane crash.

It was his brother Guy Snyder who took up the President’s position in the company. He also continued the aggressive expansion of the fast-food chain around the country but could not do it long. Guy Snyder was found dead from an overdose of painkillers in 1999, just six years after his brother’s sudden death. With no choice left, their mother, Esther Snyder, took the President’s position in the company.

Further Expansion of In-N-Out

From 2000 under the guidance of Esther Snyder, outlets were opened in Arizona and added new restaurants in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. Later in 2004, In-N-Out saw a tremendous success rate in these locations. In 2007, the restaurant opened its first outlet in Tucson, Arizona and the store opening broke the company’s record for the most burgers sold in one and most burgers sold in just one week.

Unfortunately, Esther Snyder was not there for the achievement because the previous year, she passed away at the age of 86. Ever since there were few more company presidents, the company expanded to the whole country. Currently, In-N-Out outlets are located in more than 350 locations in the country.
