What is Career-Oriented?- Know More

Everyone wants to have something that keeps them in check, that makes them feel alive, something that can give them the life they always dreamt of or at least close to it. As humans, there is the desire to grow and become someone worth looking up to, someone that the younger will see and say, “Sir, I want to be just like you when I get older,” the words that bring joy and gladness to one’s soul. Everyone can be career-oriented and be successful in any career that has to choose, steps to ensure that it happens have been provided in this article

Do we understand the words we say as young children or young adults? As we grow up, many begin to realize the life of an average adult isn’t as simple as words said from the lips. We have several qualities (of which so are emotional, physical, mental, spiritual, social qualities, etc.) which define who we are and show the relationship between us and our environment. For each of these qualities or aspects, there is a time frame by which they develop. The development process for each might differ as some follow a consistent pattern whereas others don’t.

According to Gould’s Theory (Roger Gould, a psychologist in California), recorded in his book, Transformations. In his book, he identified and described the assumptions people have learned in their formative years. The development stages under his theory were grouped based on age. In the first stage (16-22), he described the false assumption of the individuals that fall under this group, that their lives will always revolve around their parents’ teachings and upbringing. They wrestle with their opinions, learn on their independence, their ability to cater for themselves, and lots more—these in turn influence or cloud their Career oriented mindset.

 Career-oriented

 WHAT IS CAREER-ORIENTED?

Career Oriented, two concepts that need to be explained for proper understanding and to have a better view of what it’s all about.

A career can be defined as an occupation that is undertaken for a specific or a significant time frame of a person’s life, and opportunities are created to promote progress. Just like a lifetime commitment, a career can be seen as the vast and vital experience that an individual has undertaken or is still going through in one’s life. The career of an individual is built through the continuous gaining of experience, both in the world or aspect of work or life. The career path of anyone keeps the account of academics, pieces of training, paid work, etc. It involves family and personal life roles, community involvement, volunteer work, and many more.

A career is the various and intentional progress and actions taken by a person throughout the span or time frame of their working years in their lives. Different works (jobs) you have gotten, positions you have received or held, and all the achievements you have accomplished over time.

When considering the term Career it is important to know what career path is about. To achieve a good or successful career you must have a career path. A career path is the sequence or series of works a person does that leads to either a short- or long-term career goal. These would help you make progress towards achieving the goals and objectives you have set for your career. There is no specific method or timetable for how an individual’s career path should take.

A career path can be your path through an organization or an industry depending on your interest in the career. Often we come across people talking about wanting to own a brand, something that speaks about what they stand for, and so on. The sequence of steps (works/jobs) they take is simply a career path.

For the second concept, Oriented. What does it mean to be oriented? To be Oriented is to be focused or positioned in a direction that shows a relationship to something or someplace where your goal or line of interest is.

To be Career Oriented in simple terms means to be focused on your career. It can also be seen as an individual having ideas on what positions or skills they want to occupy or acquire along with the time frame of their career.

How Do I Pick a career?

To be career-oriented you have to have a career in mind that you are set to pursue. Oftentimes people are faced with the challenge of having to pick between several careers while some don’t even know where their cardinal point should begin, or where it’s pointing towards. Often the question asked about a career would be “How do I choose the right career for me?” Don’t feel you are the only one that feels you can’t decide on what career to pick, this is a challenge many people have throughout their lives. Hopefully, with some of the laid-out guidelines, I will be providing, you would be able to pick a career path in no time. Consider the following steps:

  • Before making any choice, you need to look at and think about what you like, enjoy, and what you are good at. Here
  1.  You can make a list of your hobbies, the things you love doing for the greater portion of the day. This is essential as it would make you know what kind of career path suits you best.
  2. Find your passion. What makes you want to wake up on the most stressful days and get out on a cold winter morning so you can get it done. Often your passion might not be your forte but it’s a good start.
  3. Discover what you are good at. What can you do so well with or without prior preparation, you can be called at any time and still deliver so well.
  4. Create a list of skills you possess. Sometimes what you enjoy might not be what you are good at. For example, you might enjoy cooking but you are great at organizing things. Considering a job as an event planner, personal assistant or even an office manager might be great.
  • Think of the jobs you can do that allow you to do what you are good at. Here,
  1. You need to identify your personality traits. You need to look at your personality traits when considering your career path. For instance, you might be a great speaker or a fantastic singer but you are introverted, this personality might not let you succeed in that field.
  2. Try taking a career test. These tests help you balance what you are good at and your personality traits by the use of scientific data to provide the best career that would suit your skills and personality.
  • Informational interviewing.
  1. Make a list of the potential careers you have selected.
  2. Determine what you want out of a career. Do you want to have a respectable job title or a high-paying salary or simply work for a course you care about deeply? Using these you get to narrow down what you want and find your path to success and happiness.
  3. Set up informal meetings with prospective employers or people you admire that are in the organization or industry you have chosen. During this meeting make sure to get answers to the questions you have about the industry or organization and the positions you are interested in.
  • Get to know the industry or organization practices.
  • The working hours of the job you have selected or other related offers.
  • The progression in that field.
  • The opportunities available to make more progress in that field or career path.
  1. Setting up meetings with industry experts might not always be possible or the information you get might be limited. That is why it’s all necessary to Research the Job Market. Search if there is an opportunity in this field of interest, the pros and the cons of the industry, field, or organization. You need to know if the career position you have selected has potential for career progression because if it doesn’t you might be stuck working in the same position for a long time and get frustrated even if you once loved the career.
  • When you are certain of the position and the career path that suits you, make sure you commit to it wholeheartedly. When you do your work with complete dedication you will discover that it’s the right career for you as it would become clearer as you make progress or you can discover you did not conduct your research properly and this is not the career for you.
  • Discover your core values.
  1. Make a list of your most preferred qualities.
  2. Find companies, industries, or organizations that possess those qualities or core beliefs.
  • Try and error. You might never get it the first time but that does not mean you should give up. If the career you picked doesn’t work, use the following guidelines and try another career path.

These guidelines would help you select the most suitable career path for you. It doesn’t matter the age class you belong to, you can always start the journey to find your career path.

Finding a career can look a little far-fetched, that is why many people advise you to turn your passion into a Career. What you love and derive joy from can never go wrong, at least that’s the saying. Below are a few steps you can take to turn your passion into a Career:
