The phrases in Jeopardy! the game board is assigned a sum of dollars. These values are made double and triple in the successive rounds.

For example, say, a contestant picked up “Presidents for $200”. The clue for this could be phrased as, “This ‘Father of Our Country’ didn’t chop down a tree.” The correct answer to this phrase would be, “Who was George Washington?”.  The responses must always be made in the form of a question.

The game begins when a returning winner selects a position on Jeopardy! board. In cases, when there are no returning winners the contestants are selected at random by pulling out a draw before the show.

The clues are revealed and read by the host. The contestants use a buzzer to secure the first position to respond to the presented clues. The responses should be grammatically correct and must include the correct answer to the clues, in the form of a question.

For correct responses, the money value assigned to the prompt is added to the contestant’s score. This contestant chooses the next prompt.

In case of incorrect response or no response after the buzzer, the score money value is deducted from the contestant. If the contestant’s response is vague but not necessarily incorrect, the contestants are provided extra time to come up with a more specific response.
