Turquoise, sometimes referred to as aquamarine, is a combination of pale green and blue. It comes from the French expression ‘Turkish.’ and can vary from smooth, pale hues to vivid, intense color shocks. You would need to mix blue and green paint to get the exact shade you want if you are unable to find a tub of pre-mixed turquoise. Mix cyan-blue with a much smaller amount of green for a simple turquoise. Also instead of having to buy them, mixing the color is necessary because it can be costly if you buy them. When you build your own painting, it’s cheaper and more fun to make the color all by yourself. 

Turquoise, just as the name suggests, reflects water. The hue of the ocean is turquoise. In the fall season, the sky has turquoise hue as well. Men are drawn to the dark shades of turquoise, while women are attracted to the lighter shades. It is a color that is everywhere in nature. It is impossible to see turquoise mixing in with the world of nature. 

Turquoise also has a calming effect on patients, according to medics. It also has the ability to treat patients who have panic attacks. To offer a soothing effect on people with a mental health problem, the walls of psychiatric hospitals have turquoise or blue shades. 

It is also said that in Caribbean during the sunshine the shallow water transforms into turquoise. Hence, the turquoise is used by people from Caribbean as slang for the oceans. It also projects tranquilly and harmony just like still water. Thus, mental balance and harmony give peace and equilibrium.

  • Choose the shade of turquoise

A vivid, mostly blue combination of blue and green is commonly known as Turquoise. Although, inside the turquoise range, you can combine different shades such as for an elegant and pale turquoise, apply a glob of white paint or stick to vivid blue, green and yellow to blend a turquoise that pops. Consider whether a brighter or a more muted shade is what you want.

  • Purchase green and blue color

The medium of painting such as oil, watercolors, etc. does not matter much, but it would be easier to combine two paints of the same kind smoothly. At an art store, you can easily search for colors, because then you can find many different types of paint that suits the purpose. 

Consider acrylics first if you are new to painting, since they are an easy to blend, and you can typically purchase them in smaller, inexpensive bottles. 

And if you are buying your paint from an art supplies shop, ask the employee what items are going to blend into turquoise well because then they will be suggesting you unique green and blue hues that will be suitable for combining the shade you want. But do not only depend on this. Know the colors beforehand you’re looking for. 

  • Purchase white or yellow paint

You also can blend blue and green color with white or yellow color if you want a more muted type of turquoise. The exact shade of white or yellow is primarily a matter of choice, so pick one that suits your vision’s mood and style.

  • Choose blue color with a bias towards green color. 

Inside each pigment, there are small quantities of other colors concealed, which ensure that each shade of paint is predisposed to blend well with a certain other shade. Turquoise is essentially a combination of blue and green, so make sure to choose a blue that has green pigments already in it. Just by looking at a color you must infer the pigment such as a greenish-blue implies a green bias and a purplish-blue suggests red bias.

By using a light, medium or dark foundation, you can blend your own turquoise tint. The water latex is easy to clean and has less harmful compounds to disturb your lungs, while you can also use oil or latex paint. Choose a corresponding colorant such as oil to oil etc, when using an oil-based and water-based color.

There is more white pigment in a light or pastel base, whereas less white pigment in a medium base and very little pigment in a dark base, rendering it almost translucent. The light base best covers the wall and will require just one or two coats. The dark base would require several coats to adequately cover the wall in a good, deep color, even after applying the colorant. 

Put the color into one tub and then add color to your foundation. Mix any pigment, which may be oil or any other paint used to dye house colors. Start by adding some  equal amount of blue and green paints and then add a little more blue color or green color to get the right color.

DIY to make a pale turquoise

  • Use white color as base foundation

Start with white if you want to blend a particularly pale shade of turquoise. The majority of the mixture will be white paint, so just use as much white as you think you will like, maybe a little more. For a much darker shade of turquoise, try using a near-white grey. 

  • Blend the color together

Firstly on your slab, create a green color. Sticking with a primary color will be your best choice. Then take a color that is yellow and blend it with a color that is blue. Mix them together with a palette knife. And until you get the perfect turquoise hue, keep adding green and yellow to the blue. Remember to act first on the tone and then work next on the hue. Till you get the desired result, keep mixing the colors. 

  • Color it

You are ready to use it until you’re convinced with the pale turquoise. On the chosen board, spray your pigment and enjoy the satisfaction of blending your own color.
