Being insecure and feeling like you’re not good enough is a current human thought. There are multiple reasons for this, and it’s important to understand the root of the situation so you can fix it and realize that everybody is good at something. You just need to figure out in what areas your skills will be needed.  With the right tips, you can overcome this sentiment, be a functional person and leave all negativity behind! The neighbors’ grass is not that greener. It Is easy to focus on our flaws and shortcomings, but you need to know that even the little things you do count and are necessary to build your confidence and self-esteem.  We will discuss how to overcome the feeling – I’m not good at anything here.

Where can I start?

  • Ask the people in your social circle what they admire more about you. Different perspectives are important!
  • Try to remember what your hobbies were when you were younger, most people grow up and forget pleasures they enjoyed years ago.
  • Write a list of things, even small gestures, that you did for your community, your family, friends, something you posted on social media that you’re proud of and somehow impacted the ones around you. Maybe a great receipt that you prepared? A problem you helped solve? A successful idea you brought up at work?
  • Ignore the negativity that will come your way. People can think whatever they want. Focus on this introspective time and make the best out of it. 
  • Let go of pre-concepts that you have about being talented and that it all comes “naturally” to the gifted person. Going on a self-journey doesn’t make you.

Work on yourself, stop focusing on the others

Creating a routine is very helpful and positive to our body and mind. Living through uncertain times can make you more anxious and messy, increasing the feeling of loneliness and loss of purpose, so setting this straight will make you analyze your goals more clearly and what abilities will make you thrive! 

You can start with:

  1. Set up a time to go to sleep and wake up. Remember, your body needs 8 hours of sleep!
  2. Meditating can bring a bunch of benefits. Please start with the easiest way, focusing on your breathing for a few minutes. It will make you concentrate your thoughts better and bring the disposition you need through the day. Don’t give up even if you feel you’re doing it wrong. There are a lot of tutorials for iniciantes on the internet that can guide you through.
  3. Don’t forget to exercise your mind too! Reading and research are essential. It will make you see things from different points of view and find more decidedly what gives you purpose and happiness.
  4. Set boundaries! Don’t let people decide what is better for you or think you should do something just because “everybody” is doing it. As soon as you start to know the things you like and are good at, the less you will waste your time with bad situations and wrong environments.
  5. Choose to change your own narrative. Practice introducing yourself as the best version of your personality. This will make you feel more suitable in your own skin, feeling confident about where you should apply your proficiency.

Having these feelings a bad sign?

Spiraling and feeling like you will never be enough to accomplish something is just an easier way of processing reality. But it’s simply not true, it’s just a matter of perspective. Start volunteering, see what makes you shine in a crowd, even in the most ordinary situation that is possible. 

You will perceive how something you do with ease can be a struggle for others and glad you’re there to help. 

Don’t be afraid of taking risks, have fun while doing it! It’s important to say that you don’t need to be the number 1 at something to be a cool and necessary skill, helping a single person to make a small difference is already powerful.

Why not try something you’re actually really bad at? 

  • Take what you believe to be your worst skill and make an hour of your day to improve it.  You can find yourself enjoying the process, learning new things, and making you set it in your mind that it is okay not to be perfect at something. You can teach yourself as you did when you were a little child, learning to eat to talk, to walk. And even if it leads you to be sure that this is really not what you’re great at, it will make you admire a new thing that may be a friend is good at! 
  • Seeing things from somebody else’s perspective is always important because this way, you won’t be too self-absorbed thinking too hard about what society sees as great and what it doesn’t. 
  • Trust your own process and learn to respect others too. Everyone has one, which makes us even more special as a social circle. 
  • Please share your experiences, be vocal about them. It will instigate the ones around you to also speak about their struggles and what they’re proud of accomplishing. You can’t even imagine how much you will learn with them and the personalized steps to be where they are. 
  • Perhaps the one you most admire, one day also had to take a step back as you’re doing right now to see their real value and that their best skill was once far away from their reality. You can thrive too. Always take note of that!

Don’t be afraid to explore

  • Changes aren’t easy and can cause a lot of doubt, but you need to go deep and truly explore your feelings while going on this self-journey.  Maybe something like painting or cooking can be something you see as ordinary or just a hobby. Still, once you take a step back and see the full picture, this is actually something you can share with others and transform into a platform that could become your full way of making a living!

  • Start creating things, projects, ideas, and don’t let failure bring you down. Failing is actually something good that you can take as proof that you’re trying and experimenting until you find or reach your goal. It makes you vulnerable and, in the future, can make you less afraid of making mistakes. Failure comes with personal growth. Yes, it is a bittersweet process, but very worthy. 

  • Coming out of your comfort zone is such a brave gesture. It brings you the ability to visualize your strengths and weaknesses and use it as a tool for the rest of your life since we will always have challenges to overcome while living.  Once you set your goals and add to that a healthy routine, failure stops being terrible and starts being a consequence of experience and knowledge. 

  • If you feel like you can’t keep going, think about how good it will be once you reach your final goal, looking back and be proud of everything you went through to reach a happier and meaningful life, how good it will be to share all these tips and interesting qualifications with the ones who need advice and can’t seem to take the first step.

  • Remember that you’re already ahead of so many others when you choose to take a step and make a change. Don’t let the mindset of “trying is not enough” affect you because it is enough! And you deserve to be praised for it. Taking things too seriously to be perfect is dangerous and can become a burden instead of beautiful and useful.

  • Be aware that you can have multiple skills and interests. Some people don’ts have just a singular one, making them struggle to find their own identity and develop their talents for the better. Not having a particular strength is not a bad sign. It just will need more of your attention to find them and channel them into something you’re proud of. 

  • Focus on your unique perspective of things and why, where these thoughts come from, and how picking up these traits formed your way of seeing things differently.  Having various abilities can make you feel isolated from others but remember: this is all in your head.

  • In real life, you’re surrounded by people struggling with the same things. Everybody is fighting to be the better version of themselves, so use your strength to boost your confidence and later show others how having multiple paths is not terrible.

  • Track the evidence: While looking for the small things you did that caused an impact, don’t forget to track down them so you can analyze them all together later. 
    • How are the emails sent?
    • The posts you made on your social media?
    • How are they similar to the things your friends and family told you they like? And the differences?  This is one of the most important processes because it will allow you to take a step back and see all these small details you let pass before but will give you a purpose. Check thing by thing and take time to think about them truly.
  • Let’s suppose your friends admire your skill in putting together puzzles. You persist for hours on those small pieces, look for details in the big picture, and can sit for hours focused on the objective of finishing it.  What does this ordinary commentary have to do with, for example, with volunteering you did helping kids? A lot, actually!  This can mean that you don’t have problem-solving problems and distract yourself from the objective.

  • Most kids have a lot of energy and struggle to put their effort into something, it can make them angry, confused or even very tired but you can auxilate them and show that a simple puzzle can teach you wonderfully.  It will make them more disciplined and patient with their activities through the day, absorbing with more ease the new exciting things they learn every day. See? You already help so much just by being good at puzzles because everything has a meaning and a purpose. Don’t ignore these signs that show up in your life unexpectedly. They are there to make you improve, and even if you think it’s silly, it can mean the world for someone else, and that’s where the key is.

  • Something you can also use as your favor are the assessments you can online.  You will find career articles, tests, classes, and most of them are for free!  You don’t have to lay all your time on it, but it can be a powerful tool to guide you at first; it’s not a step back. Remember that everything you are going through is a path to more knowledge and acquiring true valuable things.

  • Don’t feel ashamed to ask for help.  Of course, this is a self-knowing project, but it can be hard at the beginning. That’s why looking for a teacher or someone with more experience is valid. Look for a pattern in your resumes and personal letters. 

  • What made you engaged in your past jobs? Which tools do you carry for the longest time? And which one of them was useful in multiple spaces and situations?  Like said before, perspective is important in this situation, so if a certain path is not working well for you, try and flip it.

  • Keep trying until you find your way of seeing things in a better view, a positive one, and then keep going from there. You probably won’t find all answers right away, so don’t feel pressured about it. You now have a spectrum of choices and skills.

So let’s recapitulate everything you saw until now: 

  • Communicate and express your feelings to the ones around you, take notes on what are their opinions about your better qualities; 
  • Think about the things you once did that made you really proud, even the silly ones;

  • Motivate yourself to think about all the things you will receive in life once you learn more about yourself. Life is short, and it is made to enjoy the moments even if they’re not that great. 
  • Don’t let society define you for your mistakes and flaws; prove to them you can be better and can be your better version at all times. Use your skills for good and explore the tools you have to reach your goals; you can do it.
  • Always remember to be kind to yourself.
  • Bad days are normal, and what will truly help is taking time to grow into the healthiest ways to deal with them. 
  • Once you adjust a routine for yourself and start realizing that everybody is good at something, it just might not be the same thing at the same level. You will thrive in life. 
  • Comparing yourself with others can become something toxic really quickly. That’s why it is important to take this time to reflect on who you really are and what you like. 
  • Be a little offline for it if you feel like it. Social media can be very persuasive to show only the greater things in people without showing how they got there and their personal process to achieve those goals. 
  • Your greatest skill doesn’t have to be super special. Humans are made of little things and small gestures that create something beautiful and unique as our own human species. 
  • Learning what’s better for yourself and how these will contribute to a better environment will definitely make you overcome the feeling of not being good at anything. There is no such thing.
  • Don’t rush for answers, and enjoy your process. It’s a unique experience you will go through. 
  • Stop relying on fear and be bold. You’re important and for sure will find what makes you happy and consequently give you stability, money, maturity, and so much more. 
  • You have a lot to offer the world once you believe in it.
  • Commit to being true to yourself, to your passions, and to the people you love. These three things can look simple, but most people forget about them and get lost in their lives, wondering where they got it wrong. 
  • Always remind yourself how important they are and how they will guide you to better things in the future you aim for. 
  • Don’t let that cycle of negativity and self-doubt consume what you believe. 
  • An opinion is different from a fact. 
  • Maybe you heard people saying that you’re bad at everything and would never succeed, so that becomes an opinion of theirs and even yours, but a fact means what things really are and not how you imagine them.  
  • And the fact is that you’re perfectly capable of accomplishing all the things you want once you put effort and a good mindset into it.
  • Humans aren’t capable of having zero skills. Every one of us has a perspective, a personality, and a social condition that leads us to improvement and a growing self acquaintance.
