Body Copy Examples:

Definition, the meaning of body copy in detail:-

As previously discussed, a body copy is the main content, or rather you can say it is the specific part of any book, website, newspaper, advertisement, magazine, etc. The heading section in a book is also a part of the body copy. The reason is the book text content contains every heading section with a subheading and the main article. But you cannot say that the heading is a body copy. You can say heading is a part of body copy as the heading is a part of an article. It is similar but different. Hence, the portion by which you understand every detail of a particular matter is called a body copy or article.

A single book contains a huge amount of pages. The body copy is the pages inside the book that contains the text. There are two parts inside a book:-

a. front subject/ matter

b. back subject/ matter

What is the definition of these two?

  • So, the front subject comes on the book’s front pages, and the back subject comes on the book’s end pages.
  • The front subject includes the title page, content, publisher’s data, author’s biography, etc.
  • The back subject includes the references, credits, keywords, book suggestions, etc.
  • The front-back matter and body matter are different. The author produces or writes the body matter, and a publisher produces or writes the front and back subject.
  • When the author writes the book intro, it is said body matter.
  • But when a publisher writes the book intro, it is said front matter.
  • There are rare cases where you might see the intro part considered part of the body matter.

Let’s see this with an easy example:-

Imagine you buy a book from your closest book store. The book contains content, preface, author’s biography, introduction, chapters, pictures, charts, etc. So, what do you think the body copy is?

Let’s discuss the types of body copy:-

Body copy is of six types in an advertisement:-
  1. Factual or truthful
  2. Narrative or descriptive
  3. Human Interest or sentimentalism
  4. Testimonial or endorsement
  5. Humour or mood
  6. Institutional or governmental
Let’s discuss these points in detail:-
  1. Factual/ truthful:- In a Factual body copy, you have to write it creatively that by reading the article, readers should show their interest. It must focus on action, desire, competitiveness, and facts. The article text might not be lengthy, but it does not bother your writing. Your target must be to sell your product by your creative, desirable, and truthful ad. There is a misbelief that the public/ consumer does not read the factual part. But it is not true you have to make the fact part creatively, that by reading it the consumer understands what you want to say.
  2. Descriptive:- In a narrative body copy you have to focus on the product story of the article while writing. The narrative text might be on the product or any incident you want to share, etc. All you have to do is write the report simply so that the reader can get your point. Hence, the strength of the narrative story is to empower the reader to relate to the story. And increase the positive feeling toward the incident or product.
  3.  Human interest:- The writer should focus on every reader’s emotion in a human interest body copy. So, don’t only write about product advantages and disadvantages. Also, write about current affairs. Because nowadays public demands on current matters. So, write according to their interest. Hence, body copy that takes on a human interest perspective will often be amusing, promoting sentiment, passion, and agitation. So, it acts on every emotion that lights your sense of vision, hearing, smelling, tasting, or touching.
  4. Testimonial/ endorsement:- Generally, you can say a testimonial body copy stated by consumers, celebs, specialists of a product. Hence, it must be truthful. The advantage of this point is the consumer has to find out the best part of your product. And build an ad where most of the audience can get that benefit too.
  5. Mood:- In this point, a mood body copy requires you to understand your consumer goal. You can say it is an attempted and examined procedure and can guarantee a drive that remains memorable and affecting for a long time.
  6. Institutional/ governmental:- In institutional body copy, your target should not be to sell products. You have to promote your product brand’s trust and reputation, and it will display the ideologies, purposes, or schemes of an organization. It will help the readers and inspire them to get in touch. So, like every advertising body copy, it is necessary to focus and recognize your targeted public, communication, and results before you start your writing.
