A job application is mandatory for all the jobs irrespective of whether it is an ice-cream parlor or a babysitter work. The job application should 

  • Be crisp, the application cannot be more than one page as people don’t have the time to read through a lot of information, so keep it short and sweet.  
  • Use keywords in your application as employers initially screen the job application on the basis of these. For E.g.: – When applying for a swim instructor job, use keywords such as experience in swimming for n years, an expert in freestyle and breaststroke, can guide people from the age of 7 years to 25 years.
  • Input information relevant to your job. For e.g.: – When applying for a babysitter job, add relevant information such as I am passionate about children and if you have prior experience in taking care of children do mention it as these will be advantageous in parallel to the other candidates. 
  • Never create a pompous resume as this can lead to negative rebuke such as misinterpretations of information provided, feeling of not as assuring candidate. Therefore, keep your communication direct, genuine and promising. 
  • Don’t emphasize too much of facts rather focus on the output and the impact that you have created at the workplace. This would engage the employers to approach you. 
  • Don’t add any data to just fill the resume as being in the age of 14-18, the employers don’t expect any requisites from you and it’s best not to add any irrelevant and invaluable information to the resume.

Read through the job profile carefully and understand the term and conditions provided in order to see whether it fits your criteria. Information such as payment terms, the hours of work is to be clarified as according to this the job application will differ. The higher the wage the higher the expectation that the employer is expecting in a candidate and your job application should uphold the expected level of surety. Your job application is the first thing that distinguishes you from the other candidates in the eyes of the employer so therefore make it according to the significance and requirement.

Have in-depth research about the employer, whether have they provided this job before, are the payments made on time, how do they treat the employees and do they provide any recommendation. You can access this information through the people who have worked there before and through online updates about the employers. How would this help in your job application? It can help you to understand the behavior of the employer and gain a clear understanding on what is the ethos that the organization follows and this would not only help you in building an attractive application but also recognize whether you would fit in or not. 

Personalized Resume: –

Apply for many jobs and provide a personalized resume for each, wherein I am not asking you to change the whole resume every time when you apply for a job, adjust the resume according to the requirements and need for the job. Look into the particulars where you can make the resume more relevant and interesting for the employer. Make your resume in the manner that the employer should feel the need to contact you, meaning don’t write haphazard statements rather write apt and meaningful sentences suitable to the profile. 

Presentation Skills:

I am sure as all of you are aware, your resume represents you and the way your application follows matter the most. A few points to keep when you jot down your resume: –

  • Use chronological order (latest to old) when pinning down your application. Always mention any achievements relating to the profile. Note down your skills and abilities pertaining to the job. 
  • If you don’t have any achievement or past experience according to the job, please don’t mention anything unwanted rather stick to mentioning on these lines “ I have not had any past experience in this field  but I have the skills and abilities that can be useful for performing the job” or you can just simply mention “ I look forward to providing nothing less than my best and you would not be  disappointed in the hire”. 

Know the labor laws: – 

Understand the labor laws of your country and take up the job as a high school major your job option ranges from a cashier, a barista to that of a tutor and lifeguard. There is a certain limitation to the job and you will have to set the boundaries accordingly. 

As a candidate you should clearly enquiry the responsibility and duties of your job . For eg:- If you have applied for a babysitter job, your only work is to take care of all the need of the baby and anything above that is not in your job profile and if the employer requests you to clean the house or do  the dishes it is not under your purview do the job so you will have to make it clear in your job application that these are the areas that you can perform.
