Interview questions and answers

Why opt for Waymo?

Try and frame this question by connecting what you like about Waymo and your talents. Tell them you look up to the company but also show them why you can enhance their company too.

Answer- It’s about the field in which I can do my best. When it comes to autonomous driving and visualising the same, I find it ambitious. Moreover, Waymo has a formal yet connected bond not only with the team but the customers too. This is one aspect I greatly admire. Moreover, at Waymo, learning and creativity is allowed which is not always the case with futuristic developing companies.

Trends or futuristic approach for Waymo? And why?

For questions like these, keep central focus on the strategies of the company. However, also consider your thoughts and opinions and blend the two. Avoid giving answers to please them as well as answers that they may be reluctant to.

Answer- When it comes to Waymo, trends don’t make as much an impact. I understand that Waymo’s aim and mission is safety and accessibility for the riders. Therefore, I think it’s best to use a futuristic approach. The need is to provide for the people as well as the generations to come. While trends may exist now, having ready what the future anticipates is a greater asset.

You want to add another method of inspiration for designs. However, your team is not in favor. What do you do?

A teamwork question. Again, divide your balance on teamwork as well as the best interest of the company. Going on an extreme end will make the interviewers doubtful. Understand that this answer includes a collective frame of working or thinking.

Answer- it is indeed a priority to put the team’s comfort first. However, I’ll address why the method could be of potential and discuss with the team how each member can grow through it. As a caution, I will review my method as per the teams’ convenience and see how we can negotiate for the best of the company and the team.

Do you believe in customer satisfaction over innovation or vice-versa?

Another way of approaching such questions rather than only looking at the company’s values is to blend both values in appropriate ratios to give an impactful answer. The company wants employees who can bond with potential customers. Those who understand what it means to satisfy every customer in their ride.

Answer- Innovation is for the customer. If the customer doesn’t like what you design, there is no point in it. Innovation and customer satisfaction are linked. So I will always choose customer satisfaction. When it comes to innovation, there are a million ways to go about it, that’s why it’s innovation. In those million ways, there is sure to be a way that appeals with customers. It’s just a matter of aligning innovation with customer satisfaction.

When it comes to designing; brainstorming or reference and improvisation?

Such questions require you to think about the research you’ve done. Go back and think how the company took its steps. Add in your bits too. When the interviewer sees that your thoughts align with the successful actions of the company in some way, it’s as good as a plus point for you.

Answer- I’d say both. However, references and improvisation more. The product has to be convenient. If there are improvisations to be made, it’s because the product lacks something. You can brainstorm all you want but if it doesn’t fulfil what your previous product lacks, there won’t be effective progress.

Safety is our priority. Would you opt for safety even if it’s not the best feasible option in terms of finance?

This is a tricky question. The interviewers want to see how far you can go in keeping up the company name. Ensure that your interview answers and strategies include first preference to safety. Often, interviewees get carried away with designing next-level products and forget the safety aspect.  Even though your answer may not be the best one, it can be something to be considered.

Answer- I believe that we must live up to our words. We thrive on safety before anything else. Therefore, safety must come first even in our strategies, designing and all other areas of work. About not being financially feasible, since safety is such an important priority, taking the risk and going slightly overboard may be something to consider.

Are you aware of Waymo’s mission statement? What is your thought on the same?

Here the interviewers plain want to know how much you know about the company. Choose your words wisely and give away as much as you know about the company. Choose quality over quantity. They don’t want fancy words, they want accurate and potential terms.

Answer- I understand that Waymo aims for safety first followed by efficiency Moreover, as they call it ‘cutting-edge’, ‘fast-moving’, and ‘mission-driven’ service is another characteristic feature. This is what excites me about Waymo’s mission. Ideas and concepts must always be spot-on. It drives me to want to make a difference and stay on the go at all times. Not just in driving but also spirit and enthusiasm.

You’re aware that our company stands on technology. Would you prioritize technology over other designing aspects and why?

A question to choose. Remember to focus on the mission statement of the company. You can mostly collect key terms from the mission statement and answer questions such as these.

Answer- Being a company that focuses on upgrading autonomous driving, technology has to be at the core of the company. Codes, algorithms, and above all skillful techniques are pillars. To always design with advancement and stick to the pace of the world as it moves is one of the qualities I wish to build on for Waymo. There’s no room for outdated and easy-going techniques. Since the idea is to take autonomous driving to a new level, the way of thinking and strategy must also be the same. While anyone can serve designs, Waymo is developing its name for technology and that’s why technology should always come first.

Do you think it’s ideal to develop for the future rather than the present?

This is an opinion based question more than choosing. While interviewers are welcoming your ideas, they also wish to define your thought process for your answer. Provide a firm answer with valid reason to back up the same.

Answer- Honestly, I believe working for the future should always be part of the plan. Waymo doesn’t neglect the present ideas so it’s a safe balance one can say. Moreover, I think that present styles and trends are constantly evolving. It’s better to give more priority to the future. Giving people what is trending is good but giving them what they couldn’t imagine or ather what they still can only imagine is much better.

What is your vision for Waymo? Where do you see its standards and potential a few years from now?

Using this question, the interviewers are looking at what people expect of the company. However, they are also looking at how much potential you think the company has and how much importance it holds to you indirectly. Be sure to analyse the scope of the product, mission statement and the company itself before you answer this question.

Answer- Being an autonomous self-driving technology, it is already a futuristic company. It holds large prospects according to me. Waymo has started something that has great potential in the years to come. For all you know, it may not just be a luxury but also a lifestyle. About standards and potential, with every product it is already visible. Waymo gives its all and puts customers’ dynamism first. That will be one of the largest factors in the reputation Waymo will hold
