When writing an article or journal, formatting your writing into columns is an effective way to present your work professionally. Word has a column function, that if used correctly, can maintain a format through your writing that will allow your work to depict a well-organized layout. Here, we’ll discuss How to Split a Page into Half in Word?

Creating a Column

To create a column on Microsoft Word you first need to find the Layout tab at the top of the document. Then find the icon titled Column and use the drop-down menu to choose the type of column that best suits you. 

You can either select the whole text before placing a column feature or you can choose the feature before beginning your writing so that as you write, your work will naturally fall into the two columns. 

Choosing a Column Layout

When choosing a column, you are given various options including One which is the default option of a Word page, and a single layout with no split page. Another option is Two which is two columns, and this option splits the page in half. There are also options for more than a half screen split including Three columns as well as Left and Right options.

The Left option is like the Two options which split the page in half, however, the left-sided column is narrower, and the right is larger creating a different format altogether.

Similarly, the Right option gives the same effect of a narrower column however on the right side this time leaving the left side larger. 

The Specifics of a Split Page Layout

It is significant to note that with all these options except option One, Word places a 1.27cm space between each column. The width of a column various from the space of the page. This layout option will continue onto the next page. However, if you only want this layout for one of your pages you can use the Page Break option found under the Insert tab and the Pages drop-down menu.
