Outlander (1991)

Outlander is Diana Gabaldon’s first novel and was a historical novel based in 1745. The novel is known as Cross Stitch in various parts of Europe due to the publication team who liked the name. The novels feature the two protagonists Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser who portray their love for each other throughout the novel and are quite loved by the readers. You may be wondering whether it’s a romance novel but Diana’s writing style is a mix of all genres and due to it you get the message of every genre while reading the novel. It’s mostly a science fiction, historical story based in the 1700s.

The novel talks about Valerie and Jamie’s marriage and how they have been together for ages and still love each other like they did when they first met. For this particular, Diana did a lot of research the old-fashioned way by reviewing certain books written about the historical ages and by setting them in libraries. She didn’t use the internet for her research and truly gave us a novel based on people’s personal experiences of the era to make us feel connected to the characters and the novel’s timeline.

The novel is based in the highlands of Scotland and is a time travel novel that shows how Clarie the female protagonist of the novel who is a nurse by profession and served in the World War II that happened during the 19th century was transported to the year 1745 when she was on her honeymoon with Frank Randell her husband. After getting transported to 1745 she was forced to marry Jaime and this is where the novel starts. The story ends with Claire becoming pregnant.

This novel is a must-read as it’s the start of the 8 volume’s best-selling novel of all time. It is also available on Amazon.
