EY or Ernst & Young Global Limited is a multinational corporation that works in the line of Consulting, Strategy, Taxes, and so on. They are one of the largest companies in the world. It is also a part of the Big Four. The company is headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It is essentially an accounting firm. Ernst & Young is a global leader currently in its market. Like any corporate company, they follow a typical hierarchical structure that starts with the board of directors.

  • The Board of Directors: To start with, the board of directors is responsible for their shareholders’ vision. They also strategize and implement policies for their management to keep the company running smoothly. They oversee the company and the way it is run. They take on the ultimate leadership role for the company so the employees have something to look up to and follow. Working as the board of directors has a lot of tasks to do. They have an authoritative role in the company. They take care of all the necessary issues the company faces. They also ensure that the company has all the necessary resources that company would need. They look over their plans and make important decisions about their company and its future.
  • The Chairman: the chairman is the head of the board of directors. They are responsible for overlooking the operations and the decision-making of the board of directors. They work on strategic matters and lead the board of directors. They ensure that the board of directors is competent and able to help lead the company. The chair is also elected by the board to lead them as well. They also help set the agenda. The board of directors headed by the chair maintains the interests of both the shareholders and the management. They ensure transparency and keep them running smoothly. 
  • The CEO: The CEO or the chief executive officer is appointed by the chair and the board of directors. They are the highest executive officer in the company and they overlook the running of the company. They are the bridge between the management and the board of directors. They also act as the face of the company. Along with managing and running the day-to-day operations of the company, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for ensuring that any vision that the board has in mind is executed well. In a high-level company like Ernst & Young, the CEO’s role would be taking on high executive decisions and making strategies to achieve overall growth. As compared to the board of directors they have a more hands-on job, which is why whenever there are any references made to the company, the Chief Executive Officer is usually mentioned. The current Chief Executive Officer of EY is Carmine Di Sibio. 
  • The Company Secretary: Their role in the company is to ensure the smooth sailing of any decisions made by the board. They make sure that all the administration work is run well. They look over the operations of the company and ensure that everything runs well. As the company secretary, they have a variety of tasks to carry out. For example, as the company secretary, they will have to be in touch with the company’s shareholders. They are also responsible for relaying messages on board meetings and any other general meetings. They are also tasked with setting those meetings up. They also take care of the statutory records and the company seal. 
  • Other important positions come after the company secretary. For example the: 
  • The area management partner: In EY, four designations cover different regions. Each of these regions has its management team that they take care of. The area management team also sits on the board of global executives. Under each of these teams, they have a head that is trusted and given the role to make decisions that they deem fit. Any of the decisions that they make will have to be in line with the policies and values the board of global executives set. 

Following all of this most of the positions stay the same after that. They will have the operations team, the audit team, and so on under each branch that will essentially function the same. No matter what region or branch of the company that an employee works in they will have the same roles that will be needed to fill out. For example, you will have your analysts, your consultants, the managers, and the senior managers. In an organizational structure like EY, they have their designated roles that you need to fill out to keep the company running. 

If you are fresh out of university then you may have to start as an associate consultant or a consultant. You will have to start as an associate consultant and then after twelve months of work experience, you will be promoted to a consultant. Your work as either a consultant or associate consultant will have a lot of analytical work.

Post this, you will be promoted to senior consultant. In this role, you will have the chance to work independently and build your expertise and help clients in any way that they need. It is the beginning of your leadership role. 

Here On out you may be promoted to manager, where you will have managerial roles and work on strategic issues. You will have a team to lead and work with clients again. This is a step up from senior consultants. You will also be given training on leadership and so on. 

After this, we have the Associate director. The associate director will be responsible for customer relations and any project management. You will have sales responsibilities and also act as a mentor for consultants.  

Partner is one of the higher positions in EY. In this position, you will be tasked with client relations as well as taking on new projects. You will also have to work on project management and assist the managers and the executive directors in various projects.
